The Celtics and Kenyan midfielder captained his side to a 1-1 all draw with Italian side Inter Milan and his composed performance has left football pundits drawing comparisons between him and Manchester United cult hero, Roy Keane.
The 21-year old justified latest reports that have seen him linked to top Premier League Clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool after he bullied a heavy Inter Milan midfield.
Wanyama has already impressed at the big stage after his dominant display in Europe against Serie A side Udinese and Athletico Madrid.
His power, pace and tough tackling qualities will make him an instant hit in the physical English Premier League. And yes he has an eye for goal with occasional screamer goals.
The 6ft 2in midfielder joined Celtic from Belgian Side Beerschot AC last season for a fee reported to be in the region of £900,000 in a four year deal and could be available for £7m.
The Kenyan went on to establish himself as a key figure in Neil Lennon’s side and played a key role in Celtic’s Scottish Premier League triumph.
However, Celtic boss Lennon has repeatedly said that Kenyan international will be at the Scottish club next season despite many reports linking him with a possible move to an English Premier League.
His senior brother MacDonald Mariga was also targeted by Manchester City but lack of a UK work permit, a condition Wanyama has already met, complicated the move and he was quickly signed by Inter Milan.
Manchester United are in the market for a proven midfielder after being priced out of the race for Lucas Moura and Darren Fletcher’s return from illness not imminent.
