Kenya Scoops More Medals In Barcelona

Kenya managed to increase its medal tally to 8 in the ongoing World Junior Athletics Championships in Barcelona, Spain after William Malel Sitonik clinched bronze in the men’s 5000 meters finals.

The battle for the 12 and a half laps race was a battle between Kenyan athletes and Ethiopian athletes with Kenyans as has been the norm. Moses Mukono and William Malel Sitonik part of the leading pack that had Ethiopia’s Edris Muktar and Eritrea’s Abrar Osman Adem. Muktar broke away in the final lap and the battle for the silver was to be decided between Kenya’s Sitonik and Eritrean Abrar. Sitonik was awarded bronze despite finishing in the same time of 13 minutes 40.52 seconds with Abrar. Kenya will continue its medal hunt later Sunday tonight after Timothy Kitum who is part of Kenya’s 800M team to the Olympics saved the best for the final 50M to finish first in the semi-finals. He will be joined by another Kenyan Edwin Kiplagat Melly who looked comfortable in the other semifinal. Kenya will also be represented in the men’s 3000M steeplechase finals and the women’s 1500m finals. The championships will end today.
