KDF Captures Bibi Town as They Match to Kismayu

Kenya Defense Forces and TFG soldiers have captured yet another crucial town as they matched to dislodge al-shabab fighters from the Port City of Kismayu.

 

The troops engaged hundreds of al-shabaab fighters in a fierce battle before overpowering them and taking control of BIBI town which is one of the gates to the port city of Kismayu. Kenya Defense Forces Information Operations Officer Col. Cyrus Oguna said during the battle, 3 al-shabaab fighters were killed while 3 TFG soldiers sustained minor injuries.

“During the 12:45pm engagement, AMISOM troops faced little resistance from the militants who were easily repulsed. Assorted weapons and ammunition were recovered,” Cl. Oguna said.

Col. Oguna Bibi town was an important town to the al-qaeda linked group.

“The town is at a road junction used by the Al-shabaab militia to control movement to and from Beles Quoqaani through Aglibah and to and from Afmadhow,” Col. Oguna added.

On Tuesday, 11th September, 2012, KDF captured yet another strategic town of Harbole and its villages from the insurgent after a 3-hour battle. Al-Shabaab used anti-tank shells, Duska machine guns, rocket propelled grenades, and artillery shells against KDF/TFG and Ras-Kamboni brigade all who work under the AMISOM banner.

During the fight more than 100 al-shabaab fighters were killed. AMISOM troops are now with the outskirts of the Port City of Kismayu.
