This follows an agreement between the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacist and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and Gertrude’s Hospital, made during a news conference held today, Sunday. However, there were terms with which the hospital was to abide with, for their grievances to be resolved. KMPDU representative Dr. Victor Ng’ani insisted that the doctors were to call off the strike immediately and both parties to withdraw all pending and proceeding cases. Gertrude’s Hospital Management was also urged to recognise the union under the umbrella of Kenya Private Hospitals. Gertrude’s Hospital Head of Clinical Services Dr. Thomas Ngwiri demanded that the doctors' terms of services should be improved and that all 24 dismissed doctors be reinstated immediately. This agreement comes 5 weeks after a strike by the doctors in a bid to seek recognition by KMPDU. The doctors also addressed the rising cases of patient and staff mismanagement in private hospitals across the country.
